Welcome to Head for Kuching! We are a Japanese family who has moved to Kuching, East Malaysia. Many people are familiar with Japan’s famous 100-yen store, Daiso, which has also expanded into Malaysia and is well-loved by Japanese expatriates. However, we found that Malaysia has its own homegrown budget store that’s just as popular. Meet Eco Shop!
Established in 2003, Eco Shop has grown to over 290 stores across Malaysia, gaining attention for its unique approach and extensive product selection.
It started as a store where everything was priced at RM 2.00. Today, the price has been adjusted to RM 2.60, yet it remains incredibly affordable. (This information is current as of March 25, 2025.)

A Wide Range of Affordable Products
Eco Shop offers more than 10,000 products, including household essentials, stationery, beauty products, snacks, and toys. The store is always bustling with local shoppers, and long checkout lines are a testament to its popularity.
Even here in Kuching, East Malaysia, where we live, there are nine Eco Shop locations, making it very convenient. In Boulevard Mall, there is an eco-shop located right next to Daiso.

Additionally, there is a mall called “Eco Mall,” which houses a large eco-shop inside.

Kitchenware & Tableware

The store carries tableware in plastic, ceramic, and glass varieties, along with a great selection of kitchen items such as ladles, silicone spatulas, and cutting boards.
Decorative Mats

Unique-patterned placemats and floor mats are available, adding a stylish accent to any room.
Toys for Kids

There’s also a fun selection of toys, including beach playsets, animal figurines, cars, bikes, and bubble wands—similar to what you might find in a Japanese 100-yen shop.
Everyday Essentials

Household consumables such as kitchen paper, dishwashing sponges, and scrubbing brushes are always in demand. Finding them at such a low price makes shopping at Eco Shop even more satisfying. I also spotted cute snack containers that would be perfect for kids to use at school.
Party Goods

Eco Shop also carries a variety of party supplies. A pack of 25 paper cups costs just RM 2.60—an unbeatable price! You can also find gift bags for birthday presents and number balloons for celebrating special occasions.
Snacks & Beverages

Eco Shop also sells food items, including snacks, drinks, and condiments. For example, a set of two 390ml bottles of Sprite or Coca-Cola costs just RM 2.60.
